Lagos State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Mrs. Lola Akande, has disclosed that steady progress has been made to actualise the present administration’s
dream of alleviating poverty and empowering women.
The Commissioner revealed this during a courtesy visit to the Nigerian Consulate at Guangzhou, China, during an entrepreneurial excursion to China for women empowerment, recently. She said the objective was to enhance indigenous stakeholder capacity in global best practices in the administration of state apparatus for poverty alleviation and women empowerment. According to the Commissioner, significant progress is being made in the area of women empowerment as evident by all the skill acquisition centres in the state functioning optimally, “thereby creating opportunities for thousands of trainees who learn one trade or the other at the centres” According to Mrs. Akande “this is because of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s interest in the development of women, as demonstrated by his contribution and support for enterprise development and skill acquisition centres that thrive in training citizens.” Mrs Akande explained that the decision to focus on the factories in two cities in China was because of the availability of similar structures at the Lagos State Centre Development Centres.
The Commissioner told Ambassador Wale Oloko and Nigerian community in China that Lagos State would appreciate their assistance to facilitate and render support towards industrialization and job creation in Lagos state. Ambassador Oloko while reiterating that enterprise development is the only way out of Nigeria’s problem, promised to continue to work and support the development of Nigeria. He also commended KOSFOL group for putting the tour together, noting that it is another pace setting initiative.
The Ambassador also called on other corporate organizations to emulate KOFSOL and join hands with the government for the socio-economic development of Nigeria. Mrs Kofo Olaosebikan, Group Managing Director of KOFSOL, described the initiative as an expression of the company’s commitment to its corporate social responsibility obligations.
